We asked for comments on facebook about the panic buying.

Some of the replies received were:

I've got a week's work of mowing that now won't be getting done because I've no fuel for the mowers and strimmers. This unseasonably mild spell has extended the season
No fuel at 4 petrol stations near us. We go to Cornwall Friday, and that won't be happening on ¼tank of fuel
The petroleum place near to me has put their price up by 14p , there’s not a shortage once a shortage of delivery , diabolical trick
I wasn’t too worried when I went shopping Friday as I had enough for going to mums and then 2 days of going to work. Then I started to worry what if I couldn’t get petrol on Tuesday. Needed to see mum but 60 miles round journey and potentially non left to work.
All petrol stations had massive queues so i went out 8.30 pm Friday night filled up 4 days earlier so I could sleep easy and know I could work and visit mum.
It’s alright saying don’t panic buy and stick to your routine but others have forced the issue as I wouldn’t have darent leave myself short and couldn’t go to work
    No diesel in Southport!
It’s shocking in Darlington, my mam works for shell, people fighting taking Jerry cans 10+ to fill up every fuel station in Darlington empty
Morrisons, tesco closed, none in much hoole or tarleton , charnock richard services is the best bet for now in our area
BP Wigan 144.9 unleaded … disgusting
I have just under quarter of a tank of diesel and a 200 mile weekly commute. If I can't find fuel then I can't get to work
I have enough until Tuesday then I don't know what I will. Do, I would go on my bike but due to an injury I can't it's stupid, who's going to support those I look after if I can't get to work
I went to Tesco, no queue, filled up and off I went.
I cannot believe the audacity of the news today though, they caused this mess by going on and on and on that WOULD run out and now they're claiming Joe public ignored warnings not to panic buy!

Well, despite putting in a good few dozen miles this weekend, the bikes 'tank' (my digestive tract) is as full as ever!

It gets worse, Daily Mail online main story title just now

Up to 90 per cent of forecourts are out of fuel and the rest are running out quickly as chaos at the pumps sees ambulance crash into car waiting to fill up, while Grant Shapps admits HGV driver shortage could take YEARS to fix

If QLocal's official position is to criticise media outlets for stoking panic-buying of fuel, you might like to have a word with your Ormskirk reporter Roger Blaxall, who tried to whip up fears of fuel shortages in the town yesterday despite his photographs appearing to show what appears to be a normal situation at a local filling station:
